Adeline Yontz was a student at Shimer College during the early Seminary period. She was one of the school's first eleven pupils on May 11, 1853. Her hometown is listed in the First Biennial Register and Circular (1855) as Plum River, Illinois, approximately 21 kilometers (12.6 miles) from Mount Carroll.
