Frances Bailey, born Frances E. Bartholomew, was one of the first eleven students of Shimer College in 1853, and became a lifelong supporter of the school. She married county clerk Rufus G. Bailey at a meeting of the Lyceum in 1856. He died in 1894 in Minneapolis.[1]

The 1912 Annual Calendar lists Bailey as president of the Twin City Frances Shimer School Club, of which she was the founder.

Bailey died in 1916 and was buried at the Oak Hill Cemetery in Mount Carroll.
