Mary Keohane was a member of the Shimer College faculty during the early Great Books period. She directed student teaching,[2] and also taught for a time at Morrison High School.

She was the daughter of Emma K. Pieters and Albertus Pieters, and was born in 1904 in Japan, where her parents were serving as missionaries. Her father later taught at Hope College, his alma mater, where she received her undergraduate degree in liberal arts in 1925. She went on to obtain a master's degree in history from UC Berkeley in 1931.

Mary P. Keohane (1904–1985) was an American writer, educator and activist. She was the wife of Robert E. Keohane, with whom she coauthored several high-school textbooks on government, including Government in Action and a series of self-teaching courses based on it. She taught for a number of years at Shimer College in Illinois, where she also served as director of student teaching. She held degrees from Hope College and the University of California, Berkeley.
