Maxine Swalin (1903–2009) was a North Carolina activist and writer. Beginning in the 1930s, she and her husband collaborated to revive the defunct North Carolina Symphony and reestablish it as an official state orchestra. She died in 2009 at the age of 106, and was honored with a formal commendation by the North Carolina legislature. Her works include the memoirs An Ear to Myself and Coming of Age in North Carolina's Fifth Century. She received her education at Shimer College, Juilliard, University of Iowa, and Radcliffe College.
